Shipping & returns
Tracked delivery anywhere in Ireland. It is free on orders of €75 or more, and a flat €25 below that.
If it is not right for you, send it back within 14 days of delivery in resaleable condition and we refund the price you paid, including standard delivery. That is a voluntary policy we offer on top of your legal rights. You cover the cost of returning it unless the item is faulty.
If it arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, we put it right at no cost to you under the Consumer Rights Act 2022, return postage included.
Check it at the end of each season. Gel collects dust and grit over time, and once a surface crust forms it has stopped being sticky and needs redoing.

About this product
For the mouldings a spike strip will not sit on.
A clear, sticky, non toxic gel applied with a standard caulking gun. One tube covers 3 linear metres. The answer for corbels, cornices and anything shaped.
A clear, sticky, non toxic gel that goes on with a standard caulking gun, one bead along the surface, 3 linear metres per tube.
It exists for the surfaces a spike strip cannot sit on: a corbel, a moulded cornice, a curved beam, a narrow shaped sill.
Birds find the surface unpleasant underfoot and stop using it. Nothing about it is designed to trap or injure.
It is effectively invisible from the ground, which is why it gets specified on buildings where spikes would be an eyesore.
A caulking gun is not included, and you almost certainly own one or can borrow one.
Gel and spikes are complementary rather than competing. On a straight ledge a spike strip is cheaper, more permanent and needs no maintenance. On anything shaped, spikes simply will not sit, and that is the whole reason this product exists. Most real buildings have both kinds of surface, which is why a lot of orders have both products in them.
Application matters more than quantity. It goes on as a bead along the surface rather than smeared across it, and the 3 metres per tube assumes that. Laying it on thick does not make it work better; it makes it collect dust faster.
Its honest weakness is that it is not permanent. Dust, grit and pollen land in it and eventually form a crust, and a crusted gel is just a shelf. On a clean sheltered surface it goes a long time. On a dusty roadside parapet, plan on redoing it. Put a reminder in your diary rather than discovering it when the birds come back.
Two practical cautions. It is sticky, so it belongs where a person will not put their hand: not on a handrail, not on a window ledge someone leans on, not at a height a child reaches. And on porous or historic stone, test a small patch first, because a petroleum based product can mark.
Still deciding?
Not sure yet? That is fine.
You cannot always judge a product from a photograph. If it is not right for you, send it back within 14 days of delivery in resaleable condition and we refund the price you paid, including standard delivery. That is on top of your Consumer Rights Act 2022 rights if anything arrives faulty.
If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Consumer Rights Act 2022 covers you, and we pay the return postage. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

How much does a tube cover?
The current price is €30 including VAT. We dispatch within 2 working days. Delivery then takes up to 7 working days by tracked courier. Delivery in Ireland is free on orders of €75 or more, or €25 including VAT below that.
Is a caulking gun included?
No. Any standard caulking gun works.
Where should I use it?
On surfaces a spike strip cannot sit on: corbels, moulded cornices, curved beams and shaped sills.
Should I use gel or spikes on a flat ledge?
Spikes. They cost less, they are permanent and they need almost no maintenance.
Can I use both?
Yes, and most buildings need both. Strips on the straight runs, gel on the shaped bits.
How does it stop birds?
They find the surface unpleasant underfoot and stop using it. It is not a trap and it is not designed to catch anything.
Will a bird get stuck in it?
It is a deterrent rather than an adhesive trap. Apply it as a bead rather than a thick layer and do not use it where small birds are nesting close by.
Is it toxic?
No. It is a non toxic petroleum based formula.
Will it damage the building?
On sound modern surfaces, no. On porous or historic stone, test a small patch first, because a petroleum based product can mark.
How long does it last?
Until dust and grit form a crust on it. On a clean sheltered surface that is a long time; on a dusty roadside parapet it is a seasonal job.
How do I know when to redo it?
Touch it where you can reach. If the surface has gone dry and dusty rather than tacky, it is done.
How do I remove it?
Scrape the bulk off and clean the residue with a solvent suited to the surface. Test that on a patch too.
Can I apply it in the rain?
The formula works in any weather, but you want a dry surface to get adhesion. Pick a dry day.
Can I use it indoors?
Yes, on beams and ledges in a barn or a warehouse.
Is it visible?
It is clear and it sits low, so from ground level it is effectively invisible.
Which birds does it work on?
Pigeons, gulls, starlings, sparrows and mynas: anything that wants to stand on the surface.
Will it work on small birds where spikes will not?
On a narrow moulding, yes, and that is one of its best uses.
Where should I definitely not put it?
Anywhere a person puts a hand: handrails, sills people lean on, or within reach of a child.
Is it safe around pets?
Keep it out of reach. It is not toxic but it is extremely sticky and unpleasant to get out of fur.
How do I apply it neatly?
A steady bead along the middle of the surface, in one pass, with the gun held at a consistent angle.
Do I need to clean the surface first?
Yes. Scrape off droppings, wash and dry. Gel on top of a dirty surface lifts with the dirt.
How many tubes will I need?
Divide the metres by three and round up. The three pack covers 9 linear metres.
Is the three pack cheaper?
Yes, and it is the sensible buy on anything more than a couple of metres.
Can I use it on a solar panel edge?
We would not. Use the solar mesh kit, which is designed for the space underneath.
Will it stop birds nesting in a gap?
No. A gap is a cavity and it needs closing or netting.
Can I put it on a heritage building?
Ask the consenting authority first, and test a patch. Many heritage listings restrict what may be applied to a facade.
How much is delivery?

The complete guide
Where gel beats spikes, and where it does not
5 min readBuyFactory Direct
The shape of the surface decides
On a straight ledge, a spike strip is cheaper, permanent and needs almost no maintenance. It wins on cost and it wins on longevity.
On a corbel, a moulded cornice, a curved beam or a shaped sill, a strip simply will not sit. That is what gel is for, and it is why most real buildings need both products rather than a choice between them.
Applying it
A steady bead along the middle of the surface, in one pass, with a standard caulking gun held at a consistent angle. Three linear metres per cartridge assumes a bead. Laying it on thick does not make it work harder, it just collects dust faster.
Clean the surface first. Scrape off droppings, wash, dry. Gel over a dirty surface lifts with the dirt.
What it is not
It is not a trap and it is not an adhesive designed to catch anything. Birds find the surface unpleasant underfoot and stop using it. Apply it as a bead rather than a layer, and do not use it where small birds are nesting close by.
Its honest weakness
It is not permanent. Dust, grit and pollen land in it and eventually form a crust, and a crusted gel is a shelf. On a clean sheltered surface that takes a long time. On a dusty roadside parapet, plan on it as a seasonal job and put a note in the diary rather than discovering it when the birds come back.
Test it with a finger where you can reach. Tacky is working. Dry and dusty is done.
Two cautions
It is sticky, so it belongs where nobody will put a hand: not on a handrail, not on a sill people lean on, not within a child's reach.
On porous or historic stone, test a small patch first. A petroleum based product can mark, and heritage listings often restrict what may be applied to a facade at all.
Where it is at its best
Ornate frontages where spikes would be visually unacceptable, and narrow mouldings where small birds settle and a strip has nowhere to go. From the ground it is effectively invisible, which is the reason architects specify it.
